About Us

Troop 404 has a long standing history in Pearland dating back to 1965 and is one of Pearlands premier troops.   Our goal is to provide a safe and FUN environment for the boys to engage in the Scouting Program.   The troop is composed of boys aging from 11 to 18 years with ranks from Scout through Eagle.   Our troop is very active and we have matriculated a large number of Eagle scouts.   We strive to be “boy-lead” wherein the boys learn leadership skills by planning the troops activities.  Our Patrol Leader's Council meets every other week, under the direction of our Scoutmaster, to plan current and future Troop events. We offer an active program including camping, hiking, aquatics, service projects, overnight campouts, fundraisers, merit badge classes, and timely advancements.

Our many activities include:

Courts of Honor:  The troop holds three Courts of Honor a year.  The Court of Honor is for the troop and for the recognition of the accomplishments of the boys. The boys will receive the merit badges they have earned since the last COH; their rank cards, pins, and any other recognition they have earned.   This is a time to honor our scouts and the Troop Committee encourages all parents to attend, camera in hand. We hold a pot-luck dinner and invite the entire family.

Summer Camp:  Troop 404 participates in a week long Summer Camp selected by the scouts and approved by the adult leadership.   This is an opportunity for all the boys to work on rank advancement, earn required merit badges for their advancement, and be in the company of other scouts from Texas and the U.S. We have frequented Lost Pines and GW Pirtle in the past, as well as trying out new camps to expand our Summer Camp experience.

Fall Camp:  During Thanksgiving break, the Troop attends Fall camp generally the first few days of the school break. Historically we have participated at Camp Edgewood in Louisiana, or at Bay Area Council’s Camp Karwankawa.

Family Camping: Troop 404 prides itself on one to two annual family camping events each year. We get the chance to put up our rock wall, zip line, and rope bridge, and have it all to ourselves! We also get to relax and enjoy the company of each other, as well as get to know those elusive family members our Scouts have.

Service Projects:   The scouts of Troop 404 take pride in serving the community.   We support the “Clean Pearland” initiative and have conducted many a car wash and food drives.  We also help our boys striving to achieve the rank of Eagle pull off some pretty impressive community service projects.

Other activities:   Troop 404 plans a number of weekend activities throughout the year.    In March the troop and crew camp at El Rancho Cima to hone our scouting skills, work on merit badges, and hike “Devil’s Backbone”.   In January or February, the troop camps at the Houston Astronomical Society site in Columbus.

Fundrasing:  The scouts help finance their Troop and individual scouting activities with an annual BBQ/Auction. Held in September, several hundred people enjoy meals prepared by the adults and scouts of the troop. Scouts also earn money for their individual accounts by participating in the annual Popcorn Sale.

Merit Badges:  During the year, the adult leadership will offer various merit badge classes based on general interest.   Some may be “Eagle Required” and some may not.   The type of class offered will depend on need and the availability of an instructor. The more parents that register as adult leaders, and offer to assist, the more badges we offer.

Leadership:   Troop 404 strives to be a boy-lead troop under the guidance of the Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Troop Committee.    All of our leaders have had many years of experience and training in scouting.   It is our goal to pass these leadership skills on to the boys.
